About The Program
What You Need To Know
Ivey’s full-time MBA program is one year in length and begins each April with two sections of students. The Ivey MBA is a transformational experience for ambitious leaders who want to hone their skill-set, develop their leadership abilities and accelerate their career success. Our program is not simply a set of courses, but an action-oriented learning experience designed to accelerate your success in the real world. You’ll learn everything you’d learn from a lecture and more: you’ll be the decision-maker, asked to analyze the data, develop alternatives, make and defend your recommendations.
Building Your Success
Programming starts with the business essentials – the core fundamentals that every leader needs. Within each course, you get the learning you need at the appropriate time and professors deliver content as it is relevant – gradually increasing complexity to develop understanding. Integrated into the curriculum are global learning opportunities, career management, and real-world projectsthat give you the opportunity to apply your skills in a real business environment.
Our Delivery
The Ivey MBA curriculum is delivered using Ivey’s case study method. While other schools may employ cases in their teaching methodology, Ivey is the only case-based program in Canada. Employing the use of over 300 cases a year, we use an action-oriented and dynamic approach that mirrors the challenges and complexities of real-world business. Ivey faculty use cases and work together to expand your perspective on the way issues impact an entire organization, using cross-teaching and an integrated approach to curriculum planning.
Starting at Ivey as an MBA student in 1955 at Goodholme – Ivey’s first home – Grindlay, for the first time in his 16-years of schooling, enjoyed his educational experience: “It was exhilarating.”
It didn’t take long for him to launch his academic career at Ivey by serving as a student assistant to Associate Dean Walter Thompson. Although the job started with marking exams and reports, he was invited by Dean Thompson from time to time to teach an undergraduate marketing class.
Grindlay made an impression and on graduation was hired on as faculty. After teaching at Ivey for two years, he took a three-year leave of absence to earn his PhD. at UCLA. Back at Ivey in 1962, Grindlay introduced an Operations Research course to both MBA and undergraduate students.
$3-million gift provides new business program for engineers
Western Engineering students will soon be exposed to Ivey’s renowned case-method of learning and entrepreneurial expertise thanks to a $3-million gift from Western Chancellor Emeritus John M. Thompson and his wife, Melinda.
The Thompsons’ investment will create a new Leadership and Innovation Certificate Program, taught by both Ivey and Western Engineering faculty, that combines business leadership and innovation skills with the technical components of engineering. It will be offered to students in Western’s Integrated Engineering Program and include new business and entrepreneurial courses and cases.
