 New England Institute of Technology

When New England Tech opened its first Rhode Island campus in 1940 technical training colleges were in their infancy. In those days, the family radio was the go-to entertainment appliance, and computers were only seen in science fiction movies.  Even back then, we saw the need to close the gap between technical training and traditional college courses, so we made a commitment to be a leading technical training  and business skills training school – and that promise has remained unchanged ever since.

Today, as one of the leading accredited technical and business training colleges in New England, we take great pride in knowing that the thousands of students who have graduated from New England Tech have the skills necessary for a successful career, and in making a better life for themselves.

Each of our degree programs is taught with a proven combination of technical expertise coupled with hands-on training. We offer Associate, Bachelors, Masters, and Online degreed programs in nearly 40 technical and business management skills programs, all sharing a singular common element: dedicated instructors who bring real-world work experience to their students.

Most accelerated Associate Degree programs can be completed in as little as 18 months, and Bachelor’s of Science programs in as little as 3 years. Our ongoing investment in world-class instructors, labs, materials, and equipment provide all the resources necessary for student success.
From admissions and financial aid, to employment and alumni assistance – you can count on having the in-house support you need to succeed in achieving your educational goals.
When you graduate from New England Tech, you would have gained a technical education along with business skills training that employers want.

Admission in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

May 29, 2013   //   by Admin   //   Blogs  //  No Comments

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), privately controlled coeducational institution of higher learning famous for its scientific and technological training and research. It was chartered by the state of Massachusetts in 1861 and became a land-grant college in 1863. William Barton Rogers, MIT’s founder and first president, had worked for years to organize an institution of higher learning devoted entirely to scientific and technical training, but the outbreak of the American Civil War delayed the opening of the school until 1865, when 15 students enrolled for the first classes, held in Boston. MIT moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1916; its campus is located along the Charles River. Under the administration of president Karl T. Compton (1930–48), the institute evolved from a well-regarded technical school into an internationally known centre for scientific and technical research. During theGreat Depression, its faculty established prominent research centres in a number of fields, most notably analog computing (led by Vannevar Bush) and aeronautics (led by Charles Stark Draper). DuringWorld War II, MIT administered the Radiation Laboratory, which became the nation’s leading centre forradar research and development, as well as other military laboratories. After the war, MIT continued to maintain strong ties with military and corporate patrons, who supported basic and applied research in the physical sciences, computing, aerospace, and engineering.

MIT offers both graduate and undergraduate education. There are five academic schools—the School of Architecture and Planning, the School of Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Science, the Sloan School of Management, and the School of Science—and the Whitaker College of Health Sciences and Technology. While MIT is perhaps best known for its programs in engineering and the physical sciences, other areas—notably economics, political science, urban studies, linguistics, and philosophy—are also strong. Admission is extremely competitive, and undergraduate students are often able to pursue their own original research. Total enrollment is about 10,000.

MIT has numerous research centres and laboratories. Among its facilities are a nuclear reactor, a computation centre, geophysical and astrophysical observatories, a linear accelerator, a space research centre, supersonic wind tunnels, an artificial intelligence laboratory, a centre for cognitive science, and an international studies centre. MIT’s library system is extensive and includes a number of specialized libraries; there are also several museums.

New Zealand admission & study visa rules:

New Zealand Visas Guide for Indian Students:
Find out what Indian students need to know when applying for a student visa for New Zealand.

New Zealand may not be the most well known of destinations, but it is highly regarded among international students for its high class education and desirable lifestyle.
Currently, New Zealand attracts as many as 90,000 international students every year. By 2025, the nation’s government intends to double this intake to 180,000.

What type of visa do I need?
If you need to stay for longer than three months in New Zealand for your educational program, you’ll need a Student Visa. International full-time (more than 20 hours a week of classes) students should apply to Immigration New Zealand (INZ) for a student visa.
It is worth noting that that certain criteria must be met before anybody can study in the country.

How long will it take to process?
In New Zealand restructured its visa application process, making it more efficient and student friendly. As well as improved standards of service, authorities now aim to deliver 80% of student visa applications within 30 days.
They aim to improve this to 90% within 25 days.

How much does it cost?
A student visa will cost you US$185 (INR 8,463.29). The INZ, New Delhi, does not accept cash or credit cards – you will have to pay through a bank cheque or a draft.

Can I work while I study?
Full-time international students are permitted to work for a maximum of 20 hours in a week while they are studying. They can also work full time during holidays.
Foreign students who wish to work while they study must apply for a variation of the conditions of their student visa. This can be done either while filling out the initial application or later – as long as their student visa is valid.

Can I work after graduation?
To encourage international students to stay after completing their courses, the New Zealand government, allows those with no job offers in hand to get a visa for up to 12 months, and work at a temporary job while they search for job in their chosen field. The set of rules under which this is allowed is known as the Graduate Job Search Work Instructions.

Students who secure a job offer upon the successful completion of their degree need to apply for a Graduate Work Experience visa under the Study to Work Instructions. This allows them to work for two years in New Zealand, in order to gain some practical work experience relevant to their qualifications.
The Graduate Work Experience visa can be granted for three years in the case of eligible overseas students who intend to gain a membership or register with a New Zealand professional association which requires more than two years of relevant work experience to join.

What about immigration opportunities?
Candidates who meet all the requirements are eligible for a Work to Residence visa. The category of visa you will get will depend on whether your occupation is on the Long Term Skills Shortage List or not.

• If you apply for a visa through an immigration adviser, be sure that they are licensed. The INZ may decline your visa application if it has been filed on your behalf by an adviser who is not licensed. Visit the Immigration Advisers Authority for more details.

• New Zealand defines full-time students as those attending a private training establishment (PTE) for at least 20 hours each week; studying at least three papers, or the equivalent, each semester at a tertiary institution other than a PTE; or attending a primary, intermediate, or secondary school for at least one school term.
• You can also apply for a student visa when you are already in New Zealand. A student visa granted onshore will usually include travel conditions allowing multiple journeys, so you can travel out of New Zealand and back in before the expiry of the visa.
• Students Online is a service that makes applying for student visas easier, coming into being through an arrangement between Immigration New Zealand and selected education providers. If you are studying with an education provider that is part of Students Online, you can apply for your student visa at the international office on campus. For a list of education providers that are part of Students Online.
• If you are aged 17 or under you may have to be accompanied by your parent or legal guardian.
• Foreign students can also bring their car or household items to New Zealand without having to pay any customs duty.

Visa for Indian Students for Study in New Zealand
Updated on: Aug 7, 2012

If you are an international student wanting to study in New Zealand, you would be requiring a student visa. For applying for a student visa, you need to hold a valid passport which will be valid three months past the end of your planned stay.

Learn more about Student Visa and its necessity.

When do you need a student visa?

Under all conditions, as an Indian student studying in New Zealand, you would require a student visa unless your course is less than 3 months, then you would not need a student visa but a visitor visa.

If you are enrolled in two or more short courses  (whether at the same time, or one after the other), then you need a student visa or permit, unless you are on a working holiday visa or permit.

Difference between Student Visa and Student Permit:

Student Permit: A student visa allows you to travel to the New Zealand border. When you arrive in New Zealand an immigration officer will check that you meet all the requirements to be granted a permit to study in New Zealand.

Student Visa: A student permit allows you to study full time in New Zealand for a limited period of time. A student permit may have conditions you must meet—for example, it may name:
the course you are allowed to study
the educational institute
the New Zealand location of the institute

Visa Requirements:

Ensure that you meet the visa requirements before you apply for a student visa. To get a student visa you must include:

minimum time required for completing the course and name of the course
proof that the course and course provider meet New Zealand’s requirements for international students, and  approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)
total course fees and amount of annual fees, if the course is longer than one year
nature of course fees, whether domestic or foreign fees
whether the course is full-time or part-time

To acquire a student visa, you need to show sufficient proof that you are able to fund yourself during the entire stay:

Evidence includes:
financial assistance available to you under aid programmes operated in New Zealand by a government agency
that you have enough money in New Zealand by you, or on your behalf
somebody undertakes the responsibility to cover your accommodation and living costs in New Zealand
an undertaking by a New Zealand sponsor to cover your accommodation and living costs
You must also demonstrate your intention of leaving the country after completion of your course.

Do Not Bring the Following Items Into New Zealand:

Firearms and weapons, unless a permit is obtained from New Zealand Police on arrival at the airport, this includes sporting firearms (The New Zealand Police Web site has more information on importing firearms)
Class A drugs
Certain drugs (e.g. diuretics, depressants, stimulants, heart drugs, tranquillisers, sleeping pills), unless in their original bottle with a doctor’s prescription
Ivory in any form
Tortoise or turtle shell jewellery and ornaments
Medicines using musk
Rhinoceros or tiger derivatives
Carvings or anything made from whalebone or bone from any other marine animals
Cat skins or coats
